Gothic 1: Othello Mod 4.0 – It's Out!

It’s here! Othello Mod 4.0 is now publicly available for everyone!


For now, I’ve prepared a temporary Czech translation that I personally used during my livestreams.This translation includes all content from the previous versions and 660 new lines added in the 4.0 update — translated using Google tools.So you’ll definitely come across some strange item names and texts (don’t report them — I’m aware).Still, I’m releasing it now so you can already enjoy the mod without waiting for me to find time to polish it.I’ll most likely fix and finish the Czech translation over the weekend — I’m currently dealing with a lot of stuff in real life.


As for the English translation, it is provided directly by the mod’s author. I’m not sure whether it’s human-translated or done via Google.


Here’s a list of the major changes:


Patch 4.0 – Changelog Part 1


#1 [Attribute Update]

Strength:

  • No changes.

Dexterity:

  • Now increases both ranged and melee critical hit chance.

Vitality:

  • Max HP bonus reduced from 5 to 4,

  • Now gives stamina bonus 1:1.

Intelligence:

  • Now grants 1:1 bonus to max mana.


#2 [Talent Update]

Archery:

  • No longer gives crit chance bonus (was 4%/5%/6% at levels 1/2/3).

Smithing:

  • Cost changed from 250/500/750 → 150/450/900,

  • No longer gives Strength bonus for crafted items,

  • Dragon Root and Royal Sorrel removed from recipes.

Bowcrafting:

  • Cost changed from 250/500/750 → 150/450/900,

  • No longer gives ranged crit chance for crafted items.

Alchemy:

  • Cost changed from 250/500/750 → 150/450/900,

  • Now requires Intelligence instead of max mana.

Lockpicking:

  • Cost changed from 250/500/750 → 150/450/900,

  • Player no longer starts with this talent,

  • Each level increases chance to not break a lockpick.

Sneaking:

  • Halves the detection radius of animals while they sleep,

  • Sometimes helps avoid activating traps.


#3 [Weapon Update]


Melee Weapons:

  • Removed items:

    • Cracked Mace

    • Small Hatchet

    • Light Two-Handed Sword

  • Some weapons got new models,

  • Some two-handed axes now have built-in bonuses,

  • Bug Fix: Warhammer no longer gives crit bonus,

  • New weapons based on Vitality added:

  • Two-Handed:

  • Glaive

  • Spider Spear

  • Battle Scythe

  • Guisarme

  • Orc Warlord

  • One-Handed:

  • Blacksmith’s Hand

  • Bonus additions:

    • Scimitar: +1 mana per kill

    • Victory Sword: +25 max HP

    • Bastard Sword: +2% melee crit chance for each weapon skill level (1H + 2H)

  • Most staves received completely reworked bonuses.


Ranged Weapons:

  • Removed starting 10% ranged bonus for bows and crossbows,

  • Bows and crossbows now have modifiers for range/accuracy,

Example: If a bow has a 50 modifier, only 50% of your Dexterity contributes to accuracy instead of 100%,
  • Crossbows receive lower accuracy penalties throughout the game than bows,

  • Max crit chance reduced from 40% → 10% (same as melee weapons).


#4 [Herb Update]

  • Overall herb count in the game world was reduced (recipe requirements adjusted accordingly),

  • Herb clumps replaced by individual plants,

  • Dragon Root received a new, larger model.(from 8 to 4)

Reduction examples:

  • Morning Dew: 600 → 300

  • Frogroot: 600 → 300

  • Demonic Mushrooms: 600 → 300

  • Wild Berries: 600 → 300(from 5 to 3)

  • Healing Root: 375 → 225

  • Magic Root: 375 → 225(from 3 to 2)

  • Sun Herb: 225 → 150

  • Magic Root (again): 225 → 150

Total reduction: from 3600 to 1950 items

These are the main gameplay-related changes listed by the author on the Polish Discord.There are many more changes in the update, but these are the ones most relevant to your builds and game experience.
