Gothic 2: Gold Remaster
Type of mod - Enhancement
Informations
The Gothic II: Gold Edition remaster is so far the most graphically complex version of the game, while still preserving its originality in terms of story, visuals, and gameplay. All areas and locations have essentially been retained as in the original – with the exception of now much higher levels of detail in the game worlds.
The project is based on content from the L'Hiver Edition by unknown111, reworked worlds from the High Vegetation Mod by felsenschmied, bug fixes by Falugify, and additional graphic packs by Artemian, Bentraxx, CeeX, ExCluD3D, Halk_Hogan, LordRiisis, and Vurt. Without the individual contributions of these developers, the project would not exist in this form.
From all the individual packs, the most authentic and suitable objects and textures were selected and various detail corrections were made. The package also includes new and upscaled textures, along with various adjustments and bug fixes – always with the goal of preserving the recognizable Gothic II effect and intensifying the atmosphere through higher detail and a generally more fantastical game world.
Characteristics
1) Apart from the collection of objects or meshes, the most suitable and visually appealing textures from the listed graphic packs were assembled into a new, standalone package and mutually adjusted, e.g., using new transition textures, exposure adjustments, and color corrections. In many places, optimized original textures were also used.
2) Many textures for roads, floors, roofs, and walls were redesigned so that their constant repetition in the game is less noticeable and better blends into the environment. Flora was also graphically improved so that, unlike the High Vegetation Mod, it looks even more natural and better fits the game world.
3) In some cases, completely new textures were implemented – especially in the world of addons. The game’s inventory and menu also received a graphical facelift.
4) Many of the textures used were optimized using a modern A.I. image upscaler and individually sharpened. Monsters, NPC faces, and armors now look much more detailed – without looking unnatural. In addition to improved polygon models and textures, all NPCs received corrections for the partially asymmetrical eye area.
5) The sea water in Gothic II was replaced with a sophisticated animated water texture from the HD Mod by Bentraxx for Thief II – The Metal Age. This means the water now looks much more attractive even with Gothic II’s original render. The mod also includes optimized, more beautiful waterfalls from the L'Hiver edition.
6) The remaster also contains many fixes in the game worlds compared to the original and the High Vegetation Mod. Incorrect objects and textures were removed or corrected, and more details were added. Scripts for particle, sound, and visual effects were also revised and supplemented with additional features, such as ambient lightning effects using magic.
