Gothic 1: Revised Edition

Modification Type - Enhancment

Mod Information

The "Revised Edition" offers new balancing, an improved stealing system and fixes many of the bugs in Gothic 1. These are improvements to things that bothered me when playing the game, and an increase in difficulty, as Gothic 1 no longer presents a challenge for experienced players. (There is also an "easy mode".)
The game is not expanded with new fan content. Aside from a few journal entries, a letter, and reactivated dialogue, the game's text matches the original. I was also reluctant to change items: some models and textures have been replaced with other existing ones, and some items, such as the dragon root, now provide a permanent bonus. Bloodfly91's solid armor has also been incorporated, and several spell scroll textures have been modified. However, there is full compatibility with most graphical patches.

Characteristics

- Numerous bugs in AI, object placement, dialogue logic, and more have been fixed.
- Improved stealing system: pickpocketing works better and now pays off, people respond better to stealing, lock picking needs to be learned.
- Rebalancing: increased difficulty, two-handed weapons are now usable from the start.
- Traders can no longer be robbed.
- The game takes better note of whether quests have failed and tracks them accordingly in the journal. If you have failed receiving quests for all three camps, you can continue without a guild.
- Many illogical story blocks have been removed. You can now enter the Sleeper's Temple at any time. This means you can use "shortcuts" in the story without causing problems. However, problems can still occur if you bypass locked gates using bugs.
- Many other little things

Game tips

- Permanent bonuses can be used at any time.
- Non-guild players and Shadows can learn 1st level two-handed combat from Thorus.
- Camp membership is required for 2nd level one-handed combat.
- Pickpocketing and lock picking have one level each.
- If an NPC catches you pickpocketing for the first time, they will ask you why you are sneaking. On the second attempt, they'll attack.
