Gothic 2: New Balance - General Style of Armor 1.0 (New texture pack)

Author's Note – by Selenor

Hi everyone,My name is Selenor, and I wanted to slightly (okay, a lot – but gradually) improve the armor textures in New Balance. I’ve been playing New Balance for a long time and can’t imagine Gothic without it anymore. Still, there were moments when I got new armor (especially after reforging it) and ended up dropping the game. Back then, I couldn’t do anything about it. Since then, I’ve improved a bit in Paint.NET (still a noob, just a patient one) and finally figured out how to edit textures in Gothic 2.

I’ve done quite a bit, but certainly not everything. At the moment, I have other things to focus on, so I’m releasing the current state as version 1.0. It’s slightly heavier than it could be, but I don’t have time to refine it further right now.

This version includes a patch by dk5810, which makes helmets invisible! Bonuses still apply, but helmets don’t show – preventing visual clashes with old armor textures.

I’ve reworked nearly all armor sets for the main factions: militia, knights, and paladins (especially knights and paladins!!!), demon hunters, dark warriors, hunters, and scouts. I only gave minor attention to mages – I lightly adjusted fire mages for now, but everything takes time. What I’ve completed so far looks very solid and pleases my old perfectionist eye.

Patch – General Style of Armor

Additionally, I’ve modified the mushrooms in the game – they now resemble the ones from Gothic 2. These aren’t the original textures, but lightly redrawn versions based on how I remember the mushrooms when I first launched the game back in 2005.

The mod also includes a small gem – my April Fools’ mod for the wooden stick. The regular wooden stick now looks like it used to – maybe even better. Jokes aside, these sticks now look so good it almost feels wrong to sell them.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to Blackmail01, who helped me with scripting.

Installation

You need to have Gothic 2 with New Balance installed.

  • Copy the files from the Data folder into:...\Gothic II\Data (this is the texture pack)

  • Copy the file from the Autorun folder into:...\Gothic II\system\Autorun(this is required to change the outfits of some characters – otherwise, Radames's ghost will appear in demon hunter armor)

Enjoy the game!
