Union – FPS Improver by Liker | New Plugin Added

This plugin improves FPS in demanding locations.It is primarily intended for heavy mods like L'hiver, which use high-polygon models, but it will work in any mod or even in the original game.


FPS gains are especially noticeable in areas with a high number of NPCs (humans, orcs) and objects (cities, settlements). The mod reduces CPU load by optimizing one of the engine functions. On DX7 (original renderer), the improvement is smaller than on DX11.If you have a weak GPU and are using DX11, the improvement may not appear at all.


  • Will the plugin work with any mod? – Yes, it works with all versions of Night of the Raven + Union.

  • Will it improve FPS in every location? – No, only in areas with many NPCs/creatures and objects (cities, settlements, orc sieges), and where many high-polygon models are present (barrels, items, cabinets).

  • Will it work in Archolos? – Yes, but the FPS improvement will be limited to certain areas. Archolos uses standard models, so the benefit will be moderate – on average 0 to 15%, and in some places (e.g., the center of Silbach) up to 30–40%.

  • In the heavy mod L’hiver, the average FPS gain in different city areas is between 15% and 50%.

  • For the New Balance mod, the plugin does not need to be installed – it is already included.

  • I see no improvement – is that normal? – Yes. If the hero is outside a city where there are few NPCs/creatures and objects, the FPS increase may not be noticeable. Or your FPS may be limited by settings. It’s also possible your graphics card can’t handle DX11, or you're in a location without high-polygon objects.


Installation: Download and extract the archive, then place the file Union_FpsImprover.vdf into the data/plugins folder.Requires Union to be installed!


Uninstallation: You can delete the file Union_FpsImprover.vdf at any time – it does not affect saved games.


Technical Details: This mod optimizes raytracing for individual objects (vobs). The engine’s original function works very slowly, significantly reducing performance in heavy areas. The plugin creates a so-called BVH tree for objects in the location, which drastically increases raytracing speed (by 10 to 70×).It hooks the functions zCProgMeshProto::zCSubMesh::~zCSubMesh (destructor) and zCProgMeshProto::TraceRay.
