New Website, News Migration, and Community Vision
Hi everyone! We have more updates for you regarding the move to the new website, along with some planned features and our future vision.
Successful Migration: 1,100+ News Posts on the New Site!
Yesterday, I managed to complete the transfer of all 1,100 news articles from the old website to the new one. The entire history of our project is preserved – from the very first post on August 1, 2023, to the last one I’ll write here.
Although our Google search visibility will "reset" temporarily due to the address change, everything is set up for a quick return to the top positions. Furthermore, the news system has been significantly improved: for every mod and subcategory, you will now see a complete history of articles relevant to that specific topic.
Developing the "New Balance Wiki"
As you know, our Google Drive currently holds three main documents: the Master Spreadsheet (classes, items, bonuses), the Complete Quest Guide, and the (somewhat outdated) FAQ.
My goal is to bring all this data directly to the website and transform it into a well-organized, sleek New Balance Wiki. This will be much clearer for us and, thanks to the English toggle, accessible to international players as well.
Since data and values change rapidly with updates, I want to involve you in the management. I’m considering two paths:
Reliable Editors: A few trusted individuals with the rights to directly update, edit, and expand the Wiki.
Community Contributions: Allowing any registered user to make edits, subject to admin approval. Together, we can build an up-to-date global NB wiki. If you find a mistake, you fix it instantly, and the correction is sent to the admin panel for approval.
Open Translations: Become a Translator Quickly and Easily
I’m also playing with the idea of making mod translations and corrections accessible directly through the web. It would be simple: I’ll handle the technical side (extracting text from the mods), and you just open a table on the site and fix what's needed. No complex tools, no programming required.
This way, we could support other languages (e.g., Romanian or Spanish) if there's interest. All it takes is the will to help and following the set rules. In practice, you could play a mod with a rough AI translation and gradually polish it to perfection as you play.
Plans and Vision
Please take these as a vision for the future. Not everything will be ready on day one, but it’s the direction we want to take. I want everyone to be able to get involved – even those who don’t understand modding but want to help the community.
By the way: This could be linked to a ranking system. For every translation fix or Wiki edit, you’ll earn activity points to climb the ranks and build your reputation among active members of the Gothic community. There are so many possibilities. Sky is the limit... so let's see how it all turns out! :)
