Gothic 1: Dark Mysteries 2.5 – A New Version of an Old Legend!

Introduction
Hello. A few months ago, an unofficial patch from the Polish community was released for Dark Mysteries. This patch does not come from the original creator of Dark Mysteries, but from a new Polish modder and also a YouTuber/streamer known as Bezimienny111. This modder decided to improve this legendary mod with the permission of the original author, ThePozomkiaz.
Version Explanation
Here we need to clarify a few things for the Czech community. Most of you who played Dark Mysteries years ago played version Dark Mysteries 1.04, which is available on the Gothicz.net website. Later, Dark Mysteries 2.02 was officially released, bringing many bug fixes, three difficulty levels, and other improvements. However, Gothicz.net never switched its Czech version to this newer release, and to this day only hosts the older one.
Last year, I took their translation and inserted it into the newer 2.02 version, manually translating a few new things before using the DeepL translator. Since then, this version has been available on our website. Dark Mysteries 2.5 is a modification based on the newer Dark Mysteries 2.02, so if you only played the older version, you will discover quite a lot of new content and a significantly less bugged game.
Czech – Provisional
The Czech translation is currently done using AI with some manual corrections, with help from our team members Ladin15 and MucoBubux. Dark Mysteries 2.5 includes the original Gothic 1 Czech translation and the old Dark Mysteries translation from Gothicz.net. However, there are still some errors and a few untranslated Polish texts—specifically quest names and some journal statistics.
If this causes any issues, feel free to come to our Discord and ask. Dialogues and quest descriptions in the journal are translated into Czech, which is the most important part. These untranslated texts are somewhat harder to extract from the mod, and on the day we planned to do it, I learned that development and improvements on Dark Mysteries would continue. That would mean repeatedly re-translating the extracted texts in a fairly complicated way.
Once a final version is released, we will fully polish the Czech translation.
The translation is coming later—sometimes there are simply complications.
English Translation
The same applies to English. It currently consists of the original Gothic 1 Czech translation combined with Google Translate. In the future, we will have a finished script for automatic translation via ChatGPT into Czech, which will also significantly improve the quality of the English translations.
Voice Acting
The mod includes high-quality Polish voice acting for some characters from the World of the Convicts mod. You also have the option to download the old original voice acting, which is of lower quality, so you can either play with it or with silent dialogues. A Czech voice-over may be prepared in the future.
Main changes the mod focuses on:
– A single difficulty level, based on the medium difficulty of version 2.02.
– Fixing as many bugs as possible.
– Ensuring the player cannot block story progression and can complete quests without issues.
– Weapon balance adjustments.
– Damage system overhaul: ranged weapons deal additional damage based on Dexterity, and spells deal additional damage based on a new magic attribute.
– Economy rebalancing and automatic ore settlement during trading.
– Optional restricted trading feature – merchants buy only specific types of goods.
– Fixed LP costs for character progression – the player no longer needs to worry about saving bonuses.
– A slight expansion of the world’s story, focused on adding small details and preparing for a possible continuation in Gothic 2.
– A new pickpocketing system based on the one from Gothic 2.
– Many smaller fixes and changes.
– And, if possible, as few new bugs as possible…

– Training in one-handed weapons and crossbows with Malt fixed (requires a new game).

– Fixed player reaction in B_ClearRoomUseMob when NPCs are sleeping.

Description of changes:
This version focuses on gameplay balance, bug fixes, and mechanic improvements. Many enemy stats were adjusted (reducing or increasing strength, HP, and resistances). Significant changes affect runes and robes.
A new game is not required, but it is recommended (enemy stat changes only fully apply in a new game).

– Key NPCs (Avatar of Innos, the Chosen One, Lee, Ratford, Tallin, Cord, Snaf, Buster, Torlof) gained immortality.
– Mordrag no longer loses immortality.
– NPC waypoints changed (e.g., Rost).
– Huno now correctly accepts wolf pelts.
– Many additional dialogue fixes.
🎒 Items
– “Dragon Horn” moved to the rune category.
– Staff of the Ancients now has a 15% critical hit chance.
