Sons of Jharkendar – An Animated Series Set in the World of Gothic!

Introduction

Hi! I already announced this project here on the website during the CD-Action MeetUp – an event for fans and creators of Gothic mods and related works, held this year in Poland. That’s where I first heard about this project and brought the information back to the Czech-Slovak community, as well as to anyone else visiting Myrtana :).

I plan to create a dedicated section here on the website for this project, where all the information and galleries will be gathered, just like with other mods in development. For now, my main goal is to bring attention to this interesting endeavor through a dedicated post.

What is Sons of Jharkendar?

An animated series set in the Gothic universe – Sons of Jharkendar –

Work has been ongoing for a while on an animated series set in the world of the Nameless Hero, focusing especially on Jharkendar from the Night of the Raven expansion for Gothic 2 – specifically during its golden age.

The series explores the growing social tensions in Jharkendar, sparked by the discovery of an indigenous tribe living in an area rich in magical ore.

Sons of Jharkendar takes place on the island of Karynis, with the story set around 1000 years before the events of the first Gothic game – that is, 13 years after the war between the people of Jharkendar and the orcs.

F0rtuno’s Note

This is a Polish project – all the information, updates, and videos are, of course, in Polish, and the series itself will also be in Polish. However, once it’s completed, there will definitely be great interest in translating the series into English, Czech, and other languages. That’s why I’m already following it closely.

This is a truly unique project in the Gothic community, and Jharkendar – with its atmosphere and lore – has always been one of the most captivating aspects of the Gothic world for me, right alongside the classic stories and map of Gothic 1. I’ll continue posting all new information about the project here so it can reach even more people :).

I highly recommend this fresh new video from Iger! It outlines the historical background of the series and also gives you a glimpse into the story of the production 😎🤩.

It’s been quite a while since our last update, so Jurand and I decided it’s time to share another dose of news. During this period of silence, we managed to complete the writing of detailed summaries for episodes 8 and 9 💪. Work is in full swing, and only the final three episodes remain to conclude our story.

Due to the level of detail in these summaries, we can’t yet say how much longer it will take. But to keep things from getting too monotonous, I’ll soon be releasing a video featuring a conversation between two characters from the series. It’s a snippet from the first episode, titled “Legacy” 😎.

The audio was created in collaboration with two great voice actors and composer @Adach, who provided the musical background.

For now, I’m sharing a screenshot from the series bible, where you can also get a glimpse at the episode titles 🤩. Wishing you all a pleasant evening 👊.

Konrad “Arto” Piórkowski — 10.11.2024 16:20

It’s live! The promised video is now available on YouTube 😎. We’d really appreciate it if you leave a comment or give it a thumbs up 👍 (or down), depending on how you feel about the content 🙂.

Of course, we hope you’ll enjoy the audio snippet itself as well as the great work by the guys (@Adach, Daniel, and Kristo) 😄. If anyone feels like sharing the video to help it reach more Gothic fans, we’d be very grateful 🙂.

Thanks to the work of Jurand and Marcin, I’m proud to present the first concept artworks today. These are early designs of the main character (created by @Jurand Tomczyk) and one of the key locations in the series, designed by @Marcin Roczniak. Welcome to the art team, Marcin 👊!

We’re also excited to announce that @Janusz Tracz has joined the creative team. Alongside Daniel and Adam, he will be one of the main voice actors whose voice you’ll hear in a leading role.

A big thank-you once again to everyone mentioned for their hard work – and to you, our followers, for your continued interest in the project 🫡! Wishing you a great day or evening. See you soon!

PS: If you recognize the location, give us a thumbs up 😎.

As 2024 comes to a close, it’s time for a quick summary of the work we've accomplished so far. These past 12 months have been incredibly productive for us:

– First of all, Jurand and I wrote exactly 50 pages of detailed script up to (and including) episode 9;– In the meantime, I managed to significantly expand, revise, and unify all episodes. Thanks to that, I patched up small narrative gaps and inconsistencies that appeared over the course of nearly a year of writing;– We prepared a storyline outline for the final three episodes. I can say this much – we’re very satisfied with the finale 🙂;– We completed the final version of the series bible and translated it into English. It doesn’t contain any concept art yet, but our @Motion Designer and @Background Designer are diligently working on that;– The first location concepts have been created: the Temple Square and the Slave District;– The first character concepts have been developed: General Uridin, his son Mahatem, and the great scholar Kemalon.

To wrap it up – thank you all for being with us. We wish you health, happiness, and success in 2025 – and most importantly, AN EPIC CELEBRATION 🥳.

Konrad “Arto” Piórkowski — 21.01.2025 20:51

We’re proud to present a concept art piece of one of the city districts of Jharkendar. “The Burrow” (literal translation) is a district located next to the city’s obsidian mine (in Gothic 2: Night of the Raven, this is the area where swamp dragons appear and a cave connects the swamps to the Great Canyon).

Its inhabitants are slaves, isolated and strictly guarded by the city watch. The only task these so-called “Diggers” (or “Moles”) perform is the forced extraction of the mentioned resource, used for manufacturing weapons for the Jharkendar army.

Life under constant oppression gradually drives more and more residents to organize into small resistance groups. The only relief in their unjust lives comes from the fleeting pleasure of smoking increasingly popular swamp weed.

The illustration was created by @Marcin Roczniak 🙂.

Yesterday, @Jurand Tomczyk and I had the opportunity to talk a bit about our project during the MeetUp: Gothic Edition event, organized by CD Action. A heartfelt thank you to the organizers for giving us the chance to speak, and to everyone in attendance for your kind words of support and faith in our series! 🫡

I want to assure you that the entire team is doing everything they can to present the story of Jharkendar in the way it truly deserves – with excellence and full respect for the game’s lore. I’m personally very proud of everyone involved. 💪

PS: Allow me a brief personal note. I’m deeply grateful to God for the amazing opportunity to take part in this fantastic event. Up until the very last moment, I wasn’t even sure I would be able to attend. Nothing indicated I’d make it. I’m thankful to Him for the incredible people I’ve met so far – including those at the MeetUp. It was their encouragement, and above all Jurand’s support, that gave me the strength to step onto the stage. 🙂

PPS: The quality of the photos is proof of just how spontaneous this appearance was. But in the end, I’m grateful to the photographers for capturing this milestone moment. 😎

Konrad “Arto” Piórkowski — 25.02.2025 15:30

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team – @luucia 🤩. She has joined us to design the outfits, armor, and weapons that the heroes of our series will wear and wield 💪.

Łucja’s first task was to design the armor for a soldier of the Jharkendar army – the lowest rank in the warrior caste, just above the adepts.

Konrad “Arto” Piórkowski — 04.03.2025 21:26

To close the day, we’d like to share another piece of concept art with you, created by @Marcin Roczniak 💪😎

It depicts the well-known starting location of Jharkendar. The story takes place before the portal and teleportation stones were created. The building where the portal will later be constructed currently serves as the city rulers’ council hall (this is the blocked passage near the stone guardians who guard one of the teleport platforms).

On the opposite side of the square proudly stands the first Temple of Adanos – the main religious gathering place for the people of Jharkendar. This building will serve that role until it falls into ruin during the rebellion of Rademes. 🔥

PS: How do you like the architectural style and location design? Let us know in the general chat 😎.

Jurand Tomczyk — 13.03.2025 8:43

Dear all,

I’m happy to share with you a concept art piece I created, depicting a young Quarhodron. His appearance was inspired by the distinctive features we know from the game. We first met Quarhodron when, as the Nameless Hero, we spoke with his spirit in the tomb to gain access to the Temple of Adanos.

In our story, Quarhodron is the firstborn son of General Uridin and his wife Keket.

“In the army of Jharkendar, he belongs to the elite unit of the Raven Brotherhood Warriors. Before the main plot of the series begins, he commands a post at the pass leading to the Valley of the Orcs (the Mining Valley).”

Konrad “Arto” Piórkowski — 25.04.2025 9:35 — Latest Update

After a longer break, I’m proud to present a shot from the first scene of the series trailer, which our graphic team is currently working on.

The scene shows the city rulers’ council hall, located in the same building as the portal from Jharkendar to Khorinis. In the game, the entrance to this room is blocked – it’s to the right of the stone guardians who guard the pedestal meant for the focus stone.

In the background, you can also spot a fresco depicting an updated map of Jharkendar.

As I mentioned, I’ll be giving this project its own dedicated section on our website, where all of this information will be collected. The images and videos will also be transferred into a proper gallery, and all future updates will always be translated and posted there as well.

If you’re interested, I also invite you to join the official Polish Discord server for this project, which is the source of all these updates – https://discord.gg/MmaP9uZphv
